5th Annual Vandergriff Science Fair!

Hello Vandergriff Students! We are excited to be having our 5th Annual Science Fair! The Science Fair will be held Thursday, February 23rd at 6:00-7:30 PM in the Vandergriff Cafeteria. The registration form and everything else you will need to complete your project will be posted on this blog.
Have fun with your projects and feel free to send me pictures of you doing your experiments and I will post them on the blog!

Welcome Science Fair 2011

Hello Vandergriff Students! Everything about the science fair is pretty much the same as it was last year except the date. The 4th Annual Science Fair will be held Tuesday, February 22nd at 6:00-7:30 PM in the Vandergriff Cafeteria. I will go ahead and re-post the registration form to avoid confusion.

We Have A Scientist!

Isabell Met, a 3rd grader in Mrs. Cornett's class, has had fun with science over the break! She has been watching the chemical changes of metal in various liquids and chemicals.

Judging Sheet

***Note to Parents***

This is what the judges will be using to judge the projects. It is a pretty simple judging sheet. There is one part I would like to talk about. On the section Child Oriented it says, "Does the project show evidences of having been done by the child?" Does that mean as a parent you can't help your child? No, but we do want to see that the child has had the opportunity to think through the project and put the project board together. We are not looking for perfection. The main purpose of the science fair is for kids to have fun doing science not parents showing off their skills.

A Visit From Professor Snotsalot

Thanks to Ted Sego, Vandergriff had a special visitor to introduce the 2010 Science Fair! Professor Snotsalot visited every class to hand out the science fair packet and registration forms. It was a lot of fun to talk with all the students and see the excitement they had as we talked about the upcoming event!

Science Fair Rules and Regulations


You may have a partner.
There are three categories in which you can enter; Earth, Life, Physical. If you do not know what category your project falls under please see your teacher or contact Heather Wagstaff or Jeni Young.

There will be 3 divisions. K-1, 2-3, 4-5.
There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner for each category in each division.
Once the judges have placed the winners they will then determine a grand prize winner.
No living organisms (plants or animals) are allowed at the science fair or with your display. You may use living organisms for your project; however you will need to use pictures of the living organisms on your board.
You may take pictures of yourself performing the experiment; however you can not show your face (to remain anonymous to the judges).
There will be no electricity available during the display and judging of the projects.
Must turn in entry form by Monday Dec. 14th 2009.

Judging Criteria
Creativity and Originality
Does the project show creative approach or thought in design or presentation?
Presentation
Was it visually appealing, neat and attractive?
Child Oriented
Does the project show evidence of having been done by the child?
Written Work
Are the title, purpose, hypothesis, materials, procedure, results, conclusions, & acknowledgments present and complete?


Set up Information

Set up- 2:15-4:30 pm Tuesday Jan. 26th in the Vandergriff cafeteria. We will be there to direct you to where you should set up your project.

Parents may bring in completed projects as early as 2:15 on Thursday.
At 4:30 pm doors will be closed and the judging will begin.

The Science Fair will begin at 6:30 and end at 8:00. During this time you can come back and see all of the fun projects done by your friends. There will also be a short award ceremony during this time.You may have a partner.
